The municipality of Aalter intends to demolish the old convent buildings in order to construct a new multifunctional center, including an event hall, a multipurpose hall, an after-school daycare, a library, and classrooms for the music academy. We propose an elongated volume, positioned perpendicular to the street. This compact volume will house the most public functions on the street side, while leaving a large garden in the southeast part of the site. In addition, large glass openings on the ground floor emphasize the visibility of the public functions from the street. In the area freed up after demolition, between the multifunctional center and the convent garden with its magnificent cedars of Lebanon, we plan a green space with some trees for activities of a social and collective nature (play, meeting, sharing, etc.). A pedestrian path will connect the garden to the public road.
